"Pearl" Kerr Stuart Saddle
Tank locomotive. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
"PEARL"
is an 0-4-2 saddle tank based on the locomotives built by Kerr Stuart of
Stoke on Trent during the 1920's. Three classes of locomotive of the type
were built, "Wren", "Thames" and "Tattoo." Pearl being an example of the
latter class. |

Suited to
all kinds of work, these durable little locos were used on many industrial
lines in Britain and exported to all corners of the globe. The well known
loco "Edward Thomas" on the Talyllyn is a Kerr Stuart Tattoo class loco,
although differing from Pearl in having a full cab and more rounded saddle
tank variation in style being typical of narrow gauge. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
As a
consequence of these locos being called upon to work in many differing
conditions and terrain, they were available in gauges ranging from 18" to
standard gauge. It has been possible to utilise this to produce Pearl in
both 5" and 7¼" gauges; the same loco to the same scale but representing
different full size gauges. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The model
scale is 2½" to 1 foot, the 5" version representing 2 foot gauge in full
size and the 7¼" version representing a full size locomotive working on 3
foot gauge. |
